Digital X-Rays

Thanks to new digital technology, we are now able to take x-rays with up to 90% less radiation than from older conventional equipment. In addition, this new technology generates images that are diagnostically superior to x-ray film. Retrievability and portability are also greatly enhanced. Environmentally safe, the digital x-rays require no developing solutions, fixers, cleansers, or x-ray mounts.

Our office utilizes the latest digital technology from Dexis Digital Imaging Systems, a world-wide leader in dental technology. More can be learned about our Platinum sensor at www.dexis.com.

Digital Photography

One of our most important dental tools has become the digital camera. In addition to the traditional intraoral digital photography, our office utilizes a complete professional photo studio. We utilize the Nikon D700 which boasts a 16.2 megapixel sensor that captures images with edge-to-edge sharpness and incredible color.

The camera images are used for diagnosis, patient communication, treatment planning, treatment confirmation, shade matching, imaging, and lecture purposes. We have hundreds of before and after images to view of nearly every type of dental procedure. All of the images taken on this website were taken with our Nikon digital camera.

Microscopic Dentistry

One of the newest technologies used in our office is the dental microscope. The use of dental microscopes in dentistry is becoming widely accepted, and several dental schools are now required to include training on the microscope as part of the curriculum. Many of the finest restorative/cosmetic dentists in the world rely on the expanded field of vision offered by magnification. Dr. Hollar uses the latest generation instrument offered by Seiler Microscope. The Seiler Revelation Dental Operating Microscope magnifies Dr. Hollar’s vision with five different settings ranging from 3x to 20x. The instrument is especially helpful when delicately and conservatively preparing teeth for Porcelain Veneers and porcelain onlays. Tooth defects such as decay and fractures are also more visible under the scope. Dr. Hollar’s microscope is fitted with a high-speed video camera and digital still camera for educational and lecture purposes.

T-Scan Occlusal Analysis

One of our newest and most exciting technologies is the T-Scan Computerized Occlusal Analysis System. This powerful diagnostic tool allows Dr. Hollar to accurately measure occlusal timing and force.

For years, dental occlusion has been largely a matter of guesswork for dentists. Articulations paper, waxes, pressure indicator paste, etc., were all the dentist had to assess and balance the forces of occlusion. Most of these methods are not sensitive enough to detect simultaneous contact, and none measure both biting time and force. The T-Scan occlusal analyzer has met this challenge, and we are now able to effectively reduce the risk of:

  • Implant failure

  • Traumatized teeth

  • Severe gum recession

  • Tooth notching

  • TMJ discomfort

  • Unstable splints

  • Porcelain failure

  • Fractured teeth

The heart of T-Scan technology is a disposable, extremely thin, flexible sensor. By biting and chewing against the sensor, a three dimensional view of your bite is displayed on our computer screen. We can then easily adjust the bite and check our work with the sensor. The process is repeated until the biting forces are equalized.

Ultra Sonic Scaling

A cavitron is a dental hygiene tool that uses high frequency sound waves to clean teeth. The cavitrons used in our office are state of the art instruments that have proven to be a very successful tool in removing tartar from both above and below the gumline. Instead of scaling the teeth with bulky hand scalers, the cavitron ultrasonic cleaner uses oscillating sound waves to gently vibrate the tartar away from your teeth. The cavitron unit is so gentle that it can even be used for deep cleaning and gum therapy without the need for anesthesia. Having your teeth cleaned with a cavitron is a safe effective and painless alternative to traditional cleaning methods. Some of the advantages of the cavitron include:

  • Faster than traditional teeth cleaning methods
  • A pleasant alternative to hand scaling
  • Safe and effective method to clean teeth
